About
My love of painting and drawing started before preschool. When I was a child I spent my leisure time recreating photographs using colored pencils. My interest in painting started during my teen years. I began to paint imaginary people using water colors. I spent many days with my grandfather who was a painter, he was a great inspiration in my life.
After high school, I studied Interior Design, which was interesting, but was uninspiring to me personally. When I realized this, I switched my studies to Art with an emphasis in painting. I graduated from Portland State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Art Practices. My love for abstract painting surfaced while I was attending university; I recall the particular assignment that drove my interests in abstract art. We were tasked with painting a self portrait without creating a recognizable human face. After that my art took a hard turn towards the abstract world. My works are a combination of my inspiration from plant life and nature in general, combined with my love of abstract art. I find subjects in the colors, textures and the way sunlight creates its role in highlighting the scenes I’m working with.
Everyday I practice mindfulness by being aware of the beauty around me. This allows me to see details that spark the creativity behind my artwork.
My finished Paintings are not a copy of nature, but rather my interpretation. When I begin a new piece I start with a basic concept of my interpretation then allow the painting to guide me through the rest of the process, adding or removing things when it makes sense to me and my vision.
